Universal Studios announced Monday that the first China-based theme park will open in Beijing in September.
According to WeChat’s statement and video, the company has set Sept. 20 as the opening date.
Since 2016, the theme park is under construction. Beijing authorities have given strong support, including the extension and maintenance of one of Beijing’s major subway lines.
The resort also features rides, shows and restaurants, as well as two hotels. This project will be complemented by Universal’s two Asian parks in Japan, Singapore.
Along with the Minions from “Despicable Me”, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Kung Fu Panda films, these franchises are prominently featured.
Beijing’s historical sites are a long-time draw for tourists. The coronavirus pandemic slowed the growth of domestic tourism and travel, but there have been fewer cases of local transmission, which has encouraged optimism in the tourism industry.
