A 15-year-old, who is listed by the Berlin police as a so-called “neighborhood-oriented multiple offender”, has now been provisionally arrested as the suspected perpetrator of the robbery that resulted in the death of a 75-year-old senior citizen in Gesundbrunnen on Tuesday.
The police announced on Thursday. He was caught by police shortly after robbing another elderly woman on Wednesday. According to Tagesspiegel information, the alleged perpetrator is a Bulgarian citizen.
The 75-year-old died in hospital after a robbery in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen from her serious injuries, the police said on Wednesday.
According to the information, the perpetrator spoke to the woman on Tuesday at around 7.10 a.m. and suddenly hit her in the face. He then tugged at the elderly woman’s shopping bag until the handle broke off and the woman fell to the ground.
The 75-year-old was taken to the hospital with facial injuries and a broken thigh, where she died a little later, police said. The attacker is said to have fled on a men’s bike with his prey. Now a homicide detective is investigating.
Another senior citizen was robbed in Reinickendorf on Wednesday afternoon. At around 11.45 a.m., the 79-year-old was walking on the sidewalk of Ollenhauer Straße when she suddenly fell from behind, the police said.
Lying on the floor, the young suspect is said to have hit her in the face several times with his fist and snatched her handbag.
Police officers arrested the accused 15-year-old with the help of a passer-by in a nearby residential area. Parts of the loot found near the crime scene could be returned to the elderly woman. The 79-year-old suffered minor injuries to her face and hips and was treated on an outpatient basis.
According to the investigations carried out by the homicide commission so far, the arrested person is presumably also the perpetrator of the robbery that resulted in death two days earlier.
