After two men were killed in a collision in Peterborough on Friday night, Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating.
A Peterborough police officer was driving along Landsdowne Street on his way to a call when he noticed a vehicle going through a red light at Park street. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), released a press release Saturday.
The officer turned their car around and activated the emergency lights to follow them.
The officer lost sight of the vehicle and decided to abandon pursuit. He then made their initial call.
According to the SIU, the same vehicle was involved in another crash at Landsdowne Street or Webber Avenue.
Two male occupants of the vehicle, aged 41 and 38, were killed at the scene.
We have not yet received any further information about their identities.
Two women were not hurt in the accident.
To investigate the circumstances surrounding these deaths, the SIU has assumed the case.
The case has been assigned to four investigators and two of the forensic investigators.
Anybody with video or information is requested to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529, or via the SIU’s Website.
The SIU investigates police officers who may have caused death, serious injury or the discharge of firearms at someone.
