Sierra Nevada Corporation has secured a $64.2 million contract to restore and maintain the Uzbekistan military’s Pilatus PC-12 cargo aircraft. The deal, announced recently, includes work on a total of six PC-12s and will involve field representative support. This Colorado-based company will also offer logistics support as part of the agreement. The restoration work will take place entirely in Uzbekistan and is set to be completed by August 2027.
Once the Pilatus PC-12 aircraft have been restored and are back in service, they are expected to boost Tashkent’s capacity to carry out cargo and personnel transport, surveillance, and other missions.
The Pilatus PC-12, originating from Switzerland, is a single-engine light utility aircraft that can accommodate up to 10 military personnel or one ton of payload. It is renowned for its versatility in different environments, from rough terrains to remote areas with short runways. The aircraft can be adapted for mixed passenger-cargo, all-passenger, all-cargo, or medical evacuation purposes.
The latest variant of the Pilatus PC-12 boasts high-altitude, above-weather flight capabilities with a maximum range of 2,890 kilometers (1,795 miles) and a cruising speed of 519 kilometers (322 miles) per hour. The U.S. Air Force operates a modified version of the PC-12 known as the U-28A for missions involving airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
