A recent scan revealed that Cody Bellinger includes a hairline fracture in his left fibula, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday.
Bellinger has been out since April 5 with what was originally diagnosed as a bruised calf. Roberts said the newest development”has not actually altered the length of his timetable” but did not need to speculate on a potential return .
Earlier, Roberts told MLB Network that Bellinger might return in a couple weeks.
“I can say that it’s not a daily thing,” Roberts told reporters ahead of the opener of a weekend series against the division-rival San Diego Padres. “We can sort of just place it on the backburner, let Cody perform his rehab and join us soon.”
Bellinger limped off the field, but first tests did not reveal any structural damage.
Roberts expressed psychologist in Bellinger’s progress earlier this week said he “plateaued,” prompting follow-up tests.
The course of Bellinger’s rehabilitation, which includes throwing and hitting, will not alter because of the hairline fracture, Roberts said, adding:”He is simply rehabbing every day and doing what he could to join us as soon as possible.”
