A pub in Plumley called The Smoker was evacuated due to a fire, leading to the closure of the A556 Chester Road. The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service advised the public to stay away from the area while firefighters dealt with the situation.
The fire, which started around 5:30 pm, involved the thatched roof of the pub. Firefighters from various stations, including Middlewich, Winsford, and Northwich, as well as Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the scene. An aerial ladder platform from Lymm was also deployed to help contain the fire.
By 6:30 pm, firefighters were using two hose reels to combat the fire, one from the exterior of the building and one from inside. People were urged to avoid the area due to heavy traffic and smoke. Fortunately, by 6:50 pm, firefighters had made significant progress and created a fire break to prevent the fire from spreading further.
At 7:45 pm, firefighters were still on the scene, working to fully extinguish the fire. Relief crews were called in to assist, and a Scorpion High Reach Extending Turret (HRET) was used to deliver water from a height. The Environmental Agency monitored the water run-off from the scene.
The incident will be updated as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further details on the situation at The Smoker pub in Plumley.
