LOS ANGELES — Whoopi Goldberg, Andra Day and Zendaya will probably be one of the honorees at this year’s Essence Black Women in Hollywood event, that is livestreamed during Oscars week for the first time this season.
Essence on Tuesday announced the honorees for the 14th yearly ceremony on April 22.
Besides this Emmy-, Grammy-, Oscar- and Tony-winner Goldberg and”Euphoria” celebrity Zendaya, they comprise celebrity, singer and songwriter Cynthia Erivo and celebrity Michaela Coel.
Day, who’s searching for an Oscar a couple of days after for playing the title role in”The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” may also function.
“Orange Is the New Black” celebrity Laverne Cox is set to sponsor the event whose theme this season is”Mastering Our Stories,” with a focus on the resiliency of Black girls in Hollywood during its history and throughout the inaugural calendar year.
“Essence has shown our commitment to emphasizing the energy and resiliency of Black girls for 50 decades, and a part of this has included creating chances to embarrass and comprehend each other when nobody else could,” Essence Chief Strategy & Engagement Officer Latraviette D. Smith-Wilson stated in a statement announcing the honorees.
The event, because 2008 an invite-only luncheon held during Oscars week, will feel and look like other awards shows in this incarnation, using a live-streamed ceremony in Essence.com and EssenceStudios.com beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.
