Gibson Dunn, a global law firm, has strengthened its global finance practice by welcoming Daniel Abercromby as a partner in Hong Kong. Abercromby has joined the firm from White & Case, where he was a partner in the Asia debt finance and restructuring practice. He also led the Asia sponsor finance practice at White & Case.
Doug Horowitz, co-chair of the global finance practice group at Gibson Dunn, expressed his excitement about Abercromby joining the team. He highlighted Abercromby’s extensive experience in private capital financings in Asia, including private equity, digital infrastructure, private credit, and special situations financings.
Abercromby’s legal career began in 2006 at Mayne Wetherell in Auckland before he moved to Allen & Overy in 2008 as a senior associate. He later became a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, leading the banking and finance practice in Asia, and then joined Kirkland & Ellis’ debt finance team as a partner. In 2020, he became a partner at White & Case.
As a finance partner based in Hong Kong, Abercromby specializes in leveraged and acquisition financings, direct lending transactions, and special situations investments. He advises clients, including private equity funds, on financings across Southeast Asia, Greater China, and other parts of Asia.
Gibson Dunn has been strategically expanding its team in Asia, with recent additions such as Jocelyn Williams, former head of Deutsche Bank’s litigation and regulatory enforcement, who joined as of counsel in Hong Kong in February. This growth reflects the firm’s commitment to providing top-tier legal services to clients in the region and globally.
