Gary Lightbody Reveals Snow Patrol’s New Music Inspired by Love from the Distance of Time
Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody recently shared that the band’s upcoming music release, the first in six years, was inspired by the concept of love from the passage of time. The trio, now consisting of Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly, and Johnny McDaid following the departure of bassist Paul Wilson and drummer Jonny Quinn last year, is set to launch their album titled “The Forest Is The Path” on September 13.
In addition to the album release, Snow Patrol has announced an Ireland and UK tour scheduled for February next year, including a stop at Belfast’s SSE Arena on February 27 and a Dublin performance at the 3Arena on February 25. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, June 5, at 10 am, followed by general sale on Friday, June 7, at 10 am.
“The Forest Is The Path” comprises twelve tracks written by Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly, and Johnny McDaid, with the album and single artwork showcasing paintings by Gary Lightbody. The band described the album as being rooted in reflection, introspection, and interrogation, with a key theme revolving around the concept of love from a distance of time.
Gary Lightbody elaborated on this theme, explaining, “Love from a distance to me meant the way a relationship sits in your memory from a distance of, say, 10 years. That’s not something I’d previously thought about as a way to write about love.” The album’s track “The Beginning” encapsulates this sentiment, serving as a reflection on past mistakes and the enduring impact of memories.
Throughout the years, the band members have been involved in various solo and side projects, with Johnny McDaid notably collaborating with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Kodaline, and Liam Gallagher. Gary Lightbody, known for his advocacy for the arts in Northern Ireland, previously featured on Taylor Swift’s track “The Last Time” from her 2012 album “Red.”
As Snow Patrol gears up for their highly anticipated album release and tour, fans can expect a deeply introspective and emotionally resonant musical journey that explores love, memories, and the passage of time.
