Valeriy Butenko as a player was playing for Makhachkala “Dynamo”, “Shakhtar” (Kiselevsk), Sakhalin (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk). In 1977 Boutenko started a career as a soccer referee. 13 times he was among the best referees in the country. Valery served 50 international matches. In particular, he worked at the world Championships 1986 and 1990 and the European Championships of 1984 and 1988.
