As part of a DFB campaign for environmental and climate protection, all first-round matches in the DFB Cup this weekend will kick off one minute later. As the German Football Association explained, the time should be used for loudspeaker announcements on the subject of climate protection. The four games on this Friday evening are already the beginning. They will not be kicked off until 6:01 p.m. and 8:46 p.m. respectively.
Further campaigns are planned as part of the “Climate Protection Campaign Day”. Among other things, all clubs participating in a joint fundraising campaign will donate 100 euros for every goal they score on the day of the campaign. According to the association, the donations are bundled via the DFB, which doubles the sum.
The money then goes to the non-profit organization Sports for Future, which supports climate protection projects. The clubs should also offer a vegan or vegetarian alternative to bratwurst. According to the DFB, some clubs are implementing additional projects.
