(Saint-Côme–Linière) The toddler who had to be hospitalized on Monday after inflicting serious injuries that seemed “accidental” is dead.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed on Monday afternoon the death of the child under the age of five, who had been found seriously injured around 10:30 a.m. in a residence in Saint-Côme-Linière, in Beauce, by paramedics. For reasons of confidentiality, the SQ does not disclose the exact age of the child.
“The nature of the injuries and the circumstances in which the event took place are not public,” said Sergeant Claude Doiron, of the SQ, since they are part of the police investigation.
The spokesperson for the provincial police force, however, clarified that the injuries suffered by the child “would be accidental”, emphasizing the conditional. The SQ does not, however, advance on hypotheses concerning the causes of the death of the young child, since the police investigation is only in its infancy.
An investigator from the SQ and a technician from the forensic identification service went to the residence to analyze the scene to better understand the circumstances that led to the fatal injuries of the child.
The Coroner’s Office has been notified of the situation and will conduct its own investigation in parallel with the police investigation.
