Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) responded to a resolution by Thuringian local politicians on asylum policy with a meaningless, euphemistic letter. The answer published online by FOCUS met with harsh criticism from many readers.
The topic of migration concerns people in Germany like no other. The municipalities are longingly waiting for the federal and state governments to relieve them of at least some of the burdens that have arisen from the constant influx of immigrants and which simply are not getting any smaller – on the contrary.
Since taking office at the end of 2021, the traffic light coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP has been confronted with numerous cries for help and protest notes from overwhelmed cities and municipalities.
While the alarm letters from town halls and district offices often make waves in the media, little is heard of the reactions from political Berlin.
This Wednesday, FOCUS published such a reaction online. The article “District Administrator writes asylum fire letter – Faeser’s response leaves you speechless” documents the meaningless platitudes with which the Federal Ministry of the Interior responded to a list of demands from politicians from the Thuringian district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen.
Instead of self-critical reflection or concrete offers of help, the reply letter to District Administrator Peggy Greiser (independent) is full of self-praise. The tenor is: We have everything under control, there is progress everywhere, our course in asylum and migration policy is one hundred percent correct!
Several hundred thousand people have read the article to date – and given the more than 1,300 comments, many of them are highly dissatisfied with the reaction from Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). Some make no secret of their outrage. Here FOCUS online summarizes some user comments:
