Montreal police have opened an investigation into the potentially arson attack on a van that suffered heavy damage in the Rivière-des-Prairies area early Monday morning.
It was around 3:40 a.m. that the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reported having been called to the scene of the event, following a call to 911. A parked vehicle was then on fire, on rue Anna-Paquin, not far from rue Suzanne-Giroux, in the Rivière-des-Prairies district.
When the first patrol officers arrived, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were already in the process of bringing the blaze under control.
The van-type vehicle would have suffered “significant damage”, said agent Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM. “No incendiary object was found on the spot”, she nevertheless mentioned, specifying that no arrests have therefore yet been made in this case.
The vehicle was towed in the following hours and should undergo an expertise soon.
The SPVM’s Arson Section will be responsible for conducting the investigation, in an attempt to understand the exact causes and circumstances of the event.
