Russian troops are advancing into the Donetsk region. President Zelenskyy admits the delicate situation. The situation seems to be improving for the Ukrainian defenders near Kharkiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the situation on the front in eastern Ukraine in the Donetsk region as extremely difficult. The most fighting took place in the Kramatorsk, Kurakhove and Pokrovsk directions in the Donetsk region, Zelensky said in his video message distributed on Tuesday evening. On the other hand, the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kharkiv region managed to defeat the occupiers. The results are noticeable, said Zelenskyj after a meeting with the military leadership.
Zelensky also said that at a meeting in the so-called Ramstein format with the United States at the helm, Western allies were again briefed on the urgent needs for the defense against the Russian invasion. Ukraine needs anti-aircraft defense, tank technology and artillery shells. Zelensky said he was grateful to every state and partner for their help. But the means to destroy the enemy must come now, in these weeks – “and not sometime in the summer.”
The President once again received Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) in Kiev on Tuesday. “I thanked her for all the support,” Zelensky said afterwards. “Germany is one of our most important partners in the security and political areas and in the context of our European integration.” Germany understands that the actual EU accession negotiations for Ukraine must begin in June.
