When it comes to “Maybritt Illner”, the Green Party leader of all people is convincing. When it comes to Israel, Omid Nouripour is authentic. He also doesn’t shy away from criticizing Greta Thunberg.

Today I cycled past the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. Many police vehicles were parked there. Why? Because numerous demonstrators are fighting for Palestine – including in tents overnight. It’s against Israel. And it works for Hamas.

Left-wing students are currently demonstrating against Israel at many universities in this country and in the USA. The truth is: It is not without reason that Israel is being warned to respect human rights after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

But it is also true: Do we in Germany now have to put up with the fact that not just a few people are creating a mood for a terrorist organization? That people welcome the caliphate and trash our values?

No, things are going very wrong right now. Germany must stand up for its values. Germany must take a tougher approach towards the extremists.

“Protest against Israel – what is the difference between criticism and hate?” is the topic of Thursday’s talk show “Maybrit Illner”. The ZDF program is about protest camps at universities, where – unbelievably – the destruction of Israel is also called for.

Or as journalist Ronen Steinke puts it: “Do you want to applaud the next wave of expulsions?” Yes, that is what is being done. And, as Ahmad Mansour, extremism researcher and psychologist, says: “The university leadership is failing.”

The central figure of the program is Omid Nouripour, leader of the Green Party, who, as a student in Iran, was forced to swear to the destruction of Israel during morning roll call. I’ve seen him in tears before during “Hart aber fair”.

I didn’t wish that on him and I felt for him. Because he showed a true face, beyond political standards. By the way, that’s what sets him apart from his co-boss Ricarda Lang, who always fascinates me – as an incredibly stable phrase-mongerer.

I’m not a fan of the Greens. Even when I was young, I didn’t allow myself to be persuaded to vote green. But I respect Omid Nouripour. The man seems real. With “Maybrit Illner” the Green Party leader is once again very clear. He criticizes the current pro-Palestine movement: “Without even opening your mouth, you are shouted down.”

Omid Nouripour’s most important point is to take a close look at who is positioning themselves. And he rightly denounces the fact that activist Greta Thunberg speaks out so clearly in favor of Palestine. According to Nouripour, this is unacceptable.

Also this: Left-wing anti-Semitism is not new. And then he says quite simply: “I don’t like meeting her.” Greta Thunberg has done a lot of good things as a climate activist. Now she is maneuvering herself out of the picture with her anti-Israel stance. The German Fridays for Future department has distanced itself. Anyway.
