The fire at a packaging material plant in Marienfelde is under control. This was announced by the Berlin fire brigade on Friday night on Twitter. According to this, around 200 emergency services were involved in the extinguishing, including the BER airport fire brigade. The fire brigade said it would take several hours to extinguish the fire.
A high column of smoke could be seen above southern Berlin on Thursday due to the fire in the packaging plant. He broke out in the afternoon in the Marienfelde district in the Tempelhof-Schoeneberg district.
A hall had burned to the full extent over 3000 square meters, other halls were threatened by the flames, said a fire department spokesman on Thursday. Wood and plastics that would be needed for the production of plastic packaging were stored in the hall. Around 9 p.m., the fire brigade announced that fighting the fire would take several hours.
Large amounts of water and foaming agent are required, the spokesman said. According to initial reports, no one was injured. It was initially unclear how the fire started. The fire brigade moved to Sperenberger Straße in Marienfelde with numerous fire engines. The first alarmed forces called in “extensive” reinforcements, it said.

In the evening, two large fire engines from the airport fire brigade from BER, which can transport large quantities of water, also arrived.
