“Girl From the North Country,” a Depression-era drama set to Bob Dylan’s songs, will reopen at Broadway this spring after a three-month hiatus due to virus concerns.
Producers Tristan Baker, Charlie Parsons and others said that they were thrilled to bring the show back to Broadway.
Original Broadway opening was March 5, 2020. However, the show was closed by New York’s COVID-19 regulations a week later. On October 13, 2021, the production was reopened on Broadway. It closed on January 23, 2022 because the omicron version reached New York City. This caused COVID-19 cases to climb.
The cast members who will be returning are: Todd Almond and Jeannette Bayardelle; Matthew Frederick Harris; Caitlin Joy; Robert Joy; Tom Nelis, Jay O. Sanders (John Schiappa), Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders, Jay O. Sanders and Mare Winningham. Marc Kudisch was forced to quit and Marc Bierko has been replaced by Craig Bierko.
Conor McPherson wrote and directed “Girl from the North Country”, a Depression-era tale about two Midwesterners who meet at a pivotal moment in their lives.
The producers stated that Broadway is recovering and they are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the exciting season. They also wanted to offer more people the chance to see them in the North Country to experience the magic of Bob Dylan songs and Conor McPherson’s storytelling.
It was originally performed at London’s Old Vic. In 2018, it had an off-Broadway run before being transferred to Broadway. The musical has been performed in the West End, Toronto, and Sydney, Australia. The Grammy nomination was given to the cast album.
