Fulham’s Championship match against Blackpool was stopped due to a medical emergency at Craven Cottage. A fan was taken to hospital.
Referee Peter Bankes noticed an incident at the Hammersmith End and alerted the west Londoners. They were leading 1-0 in 16 minutes.
The medical teams from both clubs rushed to assist, and the players were removed from the field.
Fulham tweeted updates about the situation approximately half an hour after the incident: “The supporter is being attended to and being transferred to hospital.
“We send our best wishes and thoughts for a speedy and complete recovery. As soon as we receive more information, we will update you on the situation.
Aleksander Mitrovic gave the hosts an early lead by scoring his 28th goal after a well-worked move.
After being out of action for nearly a fortnight, Mitrovic was back from injury and ready to play.
Blackpool beat the Cottagers earlier in the campaign. They are currently at the top of the Championship table.
However, Tangerines boss Nigel Critchley was still cautious about Marco Silva’s side before the match.
“We know Fulham away. With their form, this is one of the most difficult games you’ll face in this division. Critchley stated that it was impossible to find a more difficult fixture.
“We are aware of the challenge we face, but we have won back-toback games and have beaten them once this season.”
Silva, however, praised Blackpool’s performance at Bloomfield Road last September. The Fulham manager acknowledged that it was a difficult match for them and they did not perform well enough.
“It was an international break. We weren’t prepared in the same way as usual. Blackpool was very good at blocking our game, but we weren’t at our best.
Oldham’s match with Rochdale was also halted while the Boundary Park players were removed from the pitch.
A third incident took place just before the half-time break at Wycombe. Visitors MK Dons were leading.
