The ‘Golden Con Thank You for Being a Fan’ event will take place in Chicago next year, April 22-24
A convention is being created for ” The Golden Girls”. Organisers say it’s going “thank you” for being a fan.
The event, being called Golden Con, will be held in Chicago next year, from April 22 through April 24.
Zack Hudson, co-producer of the event, and Brad Balof, from Golden Fandom LLC, say that convention attendees will enjoy a variety of activities that revolve around the hit sitcom. These include a dance party, costume parade and pop-up bar, as well as trivia competitions.
Actors and producers from the show will also make guest appearances. Stan Zimmerman, who wrote three episodes for “The Golden Girls” between 1985 and 1986, is one confirmed convention panelist. In the coming four months, other panelists will also be announced.
“It’s funny. It’s our favorite show. It brings people together, which we have seen firsthand,” Hudson wrote to FOX Business in an email. We were hoping for a large response. We could not have anticipated the response we received, which included thousands of messages and inquiries from support. Some even came as far as New Zealand.
Hudson said, “We’re trying to answer all of them as we continue creating an environment for fans that celebrates laughter and friendship, our favorite show, and our favorite song.”
Tickets will be available for purchase in January. The public has not yet been informed of the price. Aspiring attendees will need to check the convention’s website, ThankYouForBeingAFan.com, or its dedicated social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
Golden-Con: Thank you for being a fan will be held at the Center On Halsted, a LGBTQ community center located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighbourhood. Other convention events will take place in local nightlife venues.
Balof stated that they are delighted with the response received so far. “Fans love the show and are eager to come together to share their enthusiasm. We are excited to announce the Golden Guests in the coming weeks.
Since its debut in 1985, the seven-season sitcom enjoyed a loyal following. Reruns featuring Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur (Dorothy), Betty White and Estelle Getty are still popular with fans.
White is the only surviving Golden Girl from the comedy quartet. American actress White, who is from Oak Park in Illinois, will be celebrating her 100th birthday Jan. 17, 2022
Fans had been anticipating a Golden Fans at Sea event on Celebrity Cruises ships before the coronavirus epidemic put an end to large-scale cruises and large gatherings. The five-day cruise was rescheduled for January 2022.
