If the braking booster fails , vehicles take too long to slow down.
Ford is recalling almost 115,000 compact SUVs after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) found that their brakes do not meet federally required standards.
This action is applicable to certain 2021 and/2022 Bronco Sports or Escapes which “have a lower rear brake lining coefficient than specified and are equipped with brake vacuum boosters without a sensor.”
NHTSA conducted a compliance test and found that vehicles had greater braking distances than the allowed in the event of a brake booster failure.
Ford didn’t immediately respond to FOX Business’s request for additional information about the reasons the vehicles were not equipped with the booster.

NHTSA states that a vacuum sensor will allow the brake system to detect the problem and adjust the braking force to correct it. Warranty covers the installation of new brake linings to bring vehicles up to standard.
Ford is currently conducting an investigation to verify the number of affected vehicles. Owners will be notified starting Jan. 10, and can call 1-866-436-732 to inquire if their vehicle has been recalled.
