Oakland police are investigating a Sunday afternoon murder near Lake Merritt. It occurred when a man was confronted by someone trying to steal his car.
It happened in the 600 block Grand Avenue at 3:30 p.m. The shooter fled in his own vehicle, and police are still searching for him.
Police request that anyone with information regarding the incident call the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (510) 238 3821. The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers Oakland offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect.
Oakland’s 127th shooting victim was killed just hours after Oakland police announced that they would be adding tactical teams to combat violent crime.
“Several tactical teams will support patrol officers responding to armed caravans and illegal sideshows as well as other violent crimes.” Police stated on social media that the tactical teams were highly skilled at de-escalating situations.
Last week, a security guard was shot and killed in an attempt to rob a news crew in Oakland. Kevin Nishita, a retired police officer, was providing security to a local news team Nov. 24, when he was wounded in an attempted robbery in the 300 block 14th Street. Nishita was in critical condition at the local hospital until Saturday when he succumbed to his injuries.
