Stranded Passengers Praise Suvarnabhumi Airport for Handling Singapore Airlines Emergency Landing
Suvarnabhumi Airport has received accolades for its swift response and coordination in assisting passengers and crew members of Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, which made an emergency landing at the airport. The commendation comes after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence, prompting the pilot to divert the plane to Thailand on May 21, 2024.
A total of 18 units, including Suvarnabhumi Thai Airways International (THAI), hospitals, and police, collaborated in the operation to aid the 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Tragically, one passenger lost their life, and 41 others sustained injuries during the turbulent flight. Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital reported that 38 passengers are still in Bangkok, with 25 individuals remaining hospitalized.
Despite the harrowing experience, Singapore Airlines expressed gratitude to the Thai government and relevant authorities for their assistance. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore personally contacted Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to convey his appreciation for the support provided to the affected passengers and crew members.
The collaborative effort of all agencies involved in the emergency response was instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of those on board the Singapore Airlines flight. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and effective crisis management in the face of unexpected challenges.
